Title:

Shiva, Ocean of Compassion

Description:

In today's morning satsang, Paramahamsa Nithyananda (Swamiji) describes the AdiDeva (First Deity) of Madurai, Soma Sundareshwara, the most ancient Earthly manifestation of Shiva. He recounts that Sundareshwara - which means "embodiment of graceful beauty" - was not a silent, meditative form of Shiva: he was a playful, outgoing, highly generous being who forgave all without judgment and welcomed sinners as well as devotees. To integrate his grace all that is needed is ardent feeling connection: his compassion is limitless and uncomplicated. He even took form as a pig to feed some piglets who had lost their mother and were crying with hunger. Sundareshwara's accomplishments are recorded in sixty-four leelas which give only a small selection of his many miracles and achievements. Paramahamsa will continue to share these adventures with us in the days to follow.

History and philosophy of Madurai Adeenam Shiva - An ocean of compassion

Today I will start my satsang on Madurai Adeenam and its philosophy. As i said earlier, Madurai Adeeenam has two parts in its history - historic period and pre-historic period. Basically, this institution is, this organization is established by Sundareshwara and Meenakshi themselves. It is revived by the great saint Thirujnanasambandhar, in incarnation, a great enlightened being, a high achiever, lived only 16 years on the planet earth, but finished contributing whatever he wanted to contribute within 16 years, and still the world is remembering him all over.

Still, even among the Shaiva saints, he is considered to be the greatest. Still, his songs, his sacred sentiments, compilation of his sacred sentiments are the first chapters of Thevarams. Thevaram is the compilation of the sacred sentiments on Shiva, great, beautiful, very beautiful, sweet expressions of all the different bhavas, the sacred sentiments. His compilations are considered to be the first chapter and he is the first master led humanity through devotion to Shiva, through understanding to Shiva.

After he revived the Saiva tradition and established this organization, from him, number 1 to me, 293, this period only we call as historic period - means recorded history is available. Before him, from Sudareshwara to Jnanasambandhar, that period only I call as prehistoric period.

Shiva sitting in samadhi is Kailaasa - No! This whole history and philosophy of Madurai Adeenam I can condense in four statements. One, the ultimate divine descends in human body and expresses its extraordinary powers and experiences playfully. Sudareshwara is the embodiment of this statement. Sudareshwara is not a serious... please understand, when i describe Sundareshwara, don't understand him as a serious guy with long matter hair and the snake, trishul, sitting in samadhi always in Kailaasa, frozen in time, no!

Sundareshwara, a powerful, playful, divine, above all handsome. That is why he is called Sundareshwara - lord of beauty, lord of handsome. Coming down, selling firewood, selling pearls and diamonds, selling bangles, destroying all the obstacles happening to the Madurai city and its devotees. I tell you, Sundareshwara is the most powerful living incarnation.

Please understand, he is so easily available, anytime anybody requests, immediately he reduces his frequency to human body, walks on the streets of Madurai. I am constantly in ecstasy remembering I am sitting in a land which is sanctified by Sundareshwara's feet, again and again in human frame. Please understand, in the human body he walked on this land.

Each dust in this land is directly sanctified by Mahadeva himself in a very playful dimension. Please understand, not a serious, very distanced no! he is not like Buddha. If you go to Buddha with the dead body of a child, he will say go and bring me sesame seeds from a house where there was no death that happened. C'mon, tell me directly you are not going to revive the child. Why do you want to play all these games?

But Sundareshwara, down to earth. He would have just wiped her tears, hugged her, and just sprinkled the very tears on the boy and he would have been alive. Sudareshwara is not a philosopher. He is an artist with tremendous heart, ready to listen to human sufferings, ready to bend for human emotions. He has even gone to the extreme of reviving husband for the sake of second wife. And not only that, coming again to give witness that second wife should also live with first wife.

He does not judge people. The one and only thing you need to obtain his grace is simple feeling connection, that’s all. Nothing else. He does not say ‘eh, you are doing things against the morality, you are doing things against the society, you are doing things against the dharma, you are doing things against the spiritual philosophy, you are doing things against the prakruti and nature, no no, live as per the prakruti and nature, live as per the dharma’. No, nothing! Eh! to tell all that we need Sundareshwara. Just these self-declared moral police are enough.

He bends for anybody, to any level. I was reading all his leelas, recorded leelas. Ofcourse, his leelas are innumerable. Sixty three were recorded. Each leela expresses his dimension. I know for sure, Paramjyoti Munivar, who recorded all these leelas would have been in a big mess - What to leave and what to record! He has chosen one leela to explain one dimension of Sundareshwara.

The compassion has different dimensions and different levels. If I shower my compassion to my disciple, and initiate him into sanyas, that is a different level compassion. I can say it is a kind of understanding compassion. If I shower my compassion to a disciple and initiate him into unclutching, that is also kind of an organized compassion. But suddenly who walks on the street heard about me and straight enters into this hall with a fourth stage cancer, I heal him and remove that cancer, that is spontaneous compassion.

And there is one more level. Somebody suddenly walks into this hall and says, ‘Swamiji, I sold all my property and drank and enjoyed my life and I borrowed ten lakh rupees and spent all that money on womanizing, now I want money for further womanizing’. If I give him twenty lakhs, that is Chokkanathar’s compassion. Understand. That is Sundareshwara’s compassion. Doesn’t bother about anything. Only thing you need. Just you need to have a simple feeling connection and you need to ask him, that’s it.

Sundareshwara’s compassion! Even the word compassion is too small. How much he has to go through! What a being! I was reading all the sixty three leelas. You may ask that the books are saying sixty four. One is not leela. His presence is recorded as leela. So sixty three are the actions, leelas. Sixty fourth is his very presence. So, sixty fourth is like all the said and unsaid leelas put together is the sixty fourth. Sixty three are only the actions.

So each of his dimensions are recorded as his one leela. In Vedic tradition, we have 64 different arts. Each leader, a complete being has to master the sixty four arts. In that even horse-riding is one. Astrology, horse-riding, the mastery in medicine, mastery in surgery, mastery in painting, mastery of dance, each leela of Sundareshwara proves his mastery on each art. There was never, ever, such an amazing imagination or visuailisation of the ultimate without reducing its ananta kalyana gunas into human level.

Understand, if you take the ocean water in one cup, all the qualities of the ocean water will not be there in that one cup. Naturally, the life which is in the ocean, its contribution to the water, will not be there in the cup water. But Paramjyoti.. Paramjyoti is a rishi who wrote recorded his whole leelas. Paramjyoti was capable of bringing all components and dimensions of the ocean into one cup. He was able to describe so beautifully, the leelas.

I tell you, yesterday night I decided all the biographies and autobiographies which I prepared about me have to be dumped. I have to now rewrite completely new. Because the incidents themselves cannot capture the charisma of an enlightened being, an incarnation. The context in which the incident is presented, the understanding with which the happening is shared, that creates inspiration in the next level human beings to raise themselves to that state.

Please understand, raasa leela of Sri Krishna can inspire somebody to be a womanizer, can inspire some women to become beloved of Krishna. The context in which it is presented, the way in which it is shared, the way in which it is taken to human beings, the way in which human beings are taught decides whether rasa leela is going to create womanisers or enlightened women. It will be decided only by the context in which the whole story is presented.

I tell you, Paramjyoti is the best biographer. He has done such a monumental work. I know sure in front of him, atleast hundred thousand incidents and the leelas would have been there. But he cannot record all the hundred thousand. People won’t have the time to read. He has to choose between the hundred thousand. He has to reduce the hundred thousand to sixty three. Impossible! Which one will you leave, which one will you choose? I tell you, nobody else could have done a better job than Paramjyoti.

After reading it, me, Sundareshwara authorizing..and not only that, I am thanking Paramjyoti for the method he has created. I am going to write my autobiography in the same form.. format, presentation created by Paramjyoti. Because in front of me also thousands of, I don’t know thousands or lakhs or millions of miracles and incidents are there, available. I also don’t know which ones to record, which one to leave.

Now I know what to record, how to record, what to present, how to present. Now, i have to rewrite my whole autobiography. Of course, i won't change the facts. I will not change the incidents. But the way it is organised, the choosing, the choice of the incidents to be presented, the compilation.. God! Each incident explains, expresses one extraordinary power Sundareshwara was radiating, one extraordinary experience Sundareshwara was radiating, one extraordinary capability Sundareshwara was radiating..

Please understand, capability is not power. Capability is like a circus. By training it comes. Power comes through training, but not by training. For example, you meditate, meditate, suddenly one day you start levitating. It comes through training but not by training. Capability means you hang in a rope and try to do yoga, circus in that rope. By training, training, training you master it so well, just holding the rope with one finger, you are able to hang. This is capability. This comes by training.

But you are meditating, meditating, meditating, suddenly you start levitating. This does not come by training. It comes through training. Means even if you are getting trained, at one point, there will be a breakthrough where beyond what was added will express. That is extraordinary powers. But Paramjyoti is not inhuman fellow. He does not record only extraordinary powers of Sundareshwara. He records extraordinary capabilities of Sundareshwara also.

That is why the sweet human touch, where Sundareshwara goes and carries mud to embank, to build embankment for this Vaigeyi. This whole river itself is created by one of his disciples, follower, Gundodhara. That fellow ate too much, ate literally everything, during the marriage festival and he was having hiccups. And his hiccups were like lightning, attacking the whole city. Meenakshi got frightened. As far as I remember that was the only time she got frightened.

So, Shiva said 'alright, go and put your hand on the ground and water will come'. So, Ganga immediately came and he drank the water and quenched his thirst, whatever. So, to build embankment for this Vaigeyi, he has to carry the sand. All the problems created by disciples, for that he has to carry the sand. Now, i can understand. Not just extraordinary powers, his extraordinary capabilities are also beautifully described by Paramjyothi. That is why the human touch. I tell you, just if you read these sixty three leelas, you will have feeling connection with Sundareshwara. This book is like Kalpataru. Because once if you have feeling connection for him...

He is not a philosopher. Understand, as I said now, if somebody comes who has sold all the wealth and drank and womanized, make ten lakh debt, coming and asking Sundareshwara that I wanted to settle my debt and I want more money for womanizing. Give me few years of life also for womanising. Sundareshwara does not have this money. He will go and steal and bring this money and give. That is Sundareshwara's compassion.

He will go in the night, literally using all his powers, open the doors, steal, bring it and give. There are three incidents where Sundareshwara went round stealing are recorded in Thiruveliyaadal puranam. The book describes his leelas. Three times he went around stealing in his own city. He has not left anything undone. But I tell you, there was never ever the sweetest human dimension recorded about the divine, without reducing the grandeur and beauty of the divine, in the language anywhere on the planet earth, like this book.

To compile the incidents and experiences happened between me and my disciples, i am going to use the pattern, the model of this book - Thiruveliyaadal puranam, which is describing the leelas of Shiva. See, it is like the glory of the vast ocean and sunrise, and the shining full moon and the huge Himalayas, the extraordinary Kailaasa, all these glories, the vast sky, all possible glories expressed in the purest form through the muscles is Sundareshwara.

When he sits, it is Kailaasa, when he walks, it is Tsunami, when he turns his eyes, it is eclipse. The beauty of the cosmos in flesh and bones is Sundareshwara.the description does not reduce the divine qualities and grandeur, but does not miss the human touch, coming down to the ordinary level. He is not available only for the pundits, and the yogis and the meditators. He is available to a drunkard, womanizer, pigs..

One pig got killed in the hunting by the king. All the piglets were crying and he comes as a pig to feed them. God! I cannot imagine! I cannot even imagine his compassion. Means what, this whole area, he decided, in this geography I will be available throughout the history and no philosophy. That is Sundareshwara. In this geography, I will be available throughout the history without any hindrance of philosophy. Over! This is exactly the description of Sundareshwara.

No philosophy restriction is philosophy of Madurai Adeenam. That is the philosophy of Sundareshwara. Assumes human body, does all legal, illegal, social accepted, non-accepted, all types of leelas. Not just for his devotees, yogis, rishis, spiritual seekers, no! for drunkards, for prostitutes, for pigs, I can't even put a restriction that if you feel connected only then you can come.. No! i can't imagine that the pigs felt connected to Sundareshwara and they called 'O Sundareshwara, please come and give us milk'. No!

It is just causeless, purely reasonless. I bow down to the pure love and compassion of Sundareshwara. The four statements I wanted to make in the beginning of the satsang. I made only 1 statement. I will make three other statements in next satsang. Causeless, reasonless expression of the divine, not only in human form, in any form. He came down as a pig, a female pig to feed the piglets. I bow down to his compassion and his grace. O Sundareshwara, let your grace be on all of us.

Sundareshwara is not a serious Shiva sitting in Samadhi in Kailaasa. No. When I describe Sundareshwara don’t understand him as a serious guy with a long matted hair and the snake, Trishool, sitting in Samadhi always in Kailaasa frozen in time. No. Sundareshwara is powerful, playful, divine above all handsome that is why he is called Sundareshwara – lord of beauty, lord of handsome coming down, selling fire wood! I know for sure the Param Jyothi munivar who recorded would have been in a big mess what to leave and what to keep. He has chosen one leela to explain one dimension of Sundareshwara. See compassion has different levels and different dimensions. If I shower my compassion to initiate my disciple to Brahmacharya that is one kind of compassion. If I shower my compassion to my disciple to initiate for unclutching that is one kind of organized compassion. There was never ever such an amazing imagination or visualization or the ultimate without reducing its Ananta kalyana gunas into human level. If you take ocean water in one cup, all the qualities of ocean water will not be there in that one cup. All the biographies and auto which prepared about me has to be dumped. I have to re-write completely new. Because the incidents itself cannot capture the charisma of an incarnation. The context in which the incident is presented. The understanding in which the happening is shared that creates the inspiration in the next level human beings to raise themselves to that state. Please understand rasa leela of Sri Krishna can inspire somebody to be a womanizer can inspire some women to become beloved of Krishna. The context in which it needs to be presented, the context in which it needs to be shared, the context in which it needs to be taken to humans, the context in which humans are taught decides whether rasa leela is going to create womanizers or enlightened women. Whether womanizers are going to be created or enlightened women are going to be created will be decided only the context in which the whole story is presented. I tell you Param Jytohi is the best biographer. He has done such a monumental work. I know for sure in front of him at least 100, 0000 incidents and leelas would have been there. But he cannot record all the 100,000 people won’t have time to read. He has to choose between that 100,000 . He has to reduce that 100,000 to 63. Impossible. Which one you will leave and which one you will choose? I tell you nobody else could have done better job that Param Jyothi. After reading it, me Sundareshwara, authorizes him. And not only that, I am thanking Param Jyothi for the method he created I am going to write my auto biography in the same form, format, presentation created by Param Jyothi. Because in front of me also thousands or lakhs or millions of miracles and incidents are there, available. I also don’t know which one to record and which one to leave. Now I know what to record, how to record, what to present, how to present. Now I have to re-write the whole auto biography. Of course I will not change the facts, incidents, the way it is organized and the choice of the incidents to be presented, the compilation God! Each incident explains, expresses one extraordinary power Sundareshwara was radiating, one extraordinary experience Sundareshwara was radiating, one extraordinary capability he was radiating. Capability is different from power. Capability is like circus - by training it comes. Power comes through training, but not by training. For example, you meditate and suddenly you start levitating. It comes thru training not by training. Capability you try to hang in a rope, do exercise and yoga. By training you master it so well, just holding the rope by one finger you are able to hang. This is capability this comes by training. But meditating, meditating - suddenly you levitate, this does not come by training, but through training means at one point where beyond what was added will express. That is extraordinary powers.

But Param Jyothi is not In human fellow. He does not record just extraordinary powers but extraordinary capabilities of Sundareshwara also. That is why that sweet human touch where Sundareshwara goes and carries mud to build embankment for Vaigai. This whole river is created by his follower Gundodhara. He ate too much in the festival and he was having hiccups. Hiccup was like lightening attacking the whole city. Meenakshi got frightened. As far as I remember that was the only time she was frightened J So Shiva said go put your hand and water will come. So Ganga immediately came he drank water and quenched his thirst. So to build embankment to Vaigai he has to carry the sand. All the problems created by disciples, for that he has to carry the sand. Not just extraordinary powers, his extraordinary capabilities are also beautifully described by Param Jyothi. That is why the human touch. I tell you just if you read this 63 leelas, you will have feeling connection to Sundareshwara. This book is like a kalpataru. He is not a philosopher. All of you if you remember I took a vow in Kailaasa that I will give whoever asks for whatever without judging. If they come in my breathing space and ask without judging. Sundareshwara is that energy and he goes to any extreme to take risk.

As I said now, somebody comes who sold all his wealth , drank, womanized and is about to die. If he comes and asks – heal me, give me few years of life also for womanizing….. If Sundareshwara does not have this money, he will go and steal and give. That is Sundareshwara’s compassion. He will go in the night literally using all his powers, open the doors, steal bring and give. There are three incidents where Sundareshwara went around and stole. Recorded in Thiruvilayadal Puraanam. Three times he went around stealing in his own city. …

But I tell you there was never eve r the sweetest human dimension recorded about the divine without reducing the grandeur and beauty of the divine in language anywhere else on the planet earth. To compile the incidents and experiences happened between me and my disciples, I am going to use the pattern, the model of this book Thiruvilayadal Puraanam which is describing the leelas of Shiva. I am always in ecstasy that is different. But yesterday whole day whenever I found time I was sitting in the room and reading this Sundareshwara’s leelas. I have also decided I am going to call the same team which is doing the Devon ke Dev serial. The same team and do whatever it takes to make all these 64 into a serial! They will capture exactly what Param Jyothi has visualized and I will also read the Aakashik readings and describe all the minute details even the dress colour and the way they look, the size of the Sundareshwara’s biceps, everything to the team and make a beautiful TV serial. So that this will be one of my unique contribution to Vedic Tradition. If needed, if time permits I myself will play the role of Meenakshi & Sundareshwara! J I don’t think anybody else can capture that glory and radiate it through the muscles. See it is like glory of the vast ocean and sunrise and the shining full moon and the huge Himalayas the extraordinary Kailaasa all these glories the vast sky all possible glories expressed in its purest form through the muscles is Sundareshwara! When he sits it is Kailaasa, when he walks it is tsunami, when he turns his eyes it is eclipse. The beauty of the cosmos in flesh and bones is Sundareshwara. The description does not reduce the divine qualities and grandeur but does not miss the human touch coming down to the ordinary level. He is not available only for the pundits and yogis and meditators. He is available to a drunkard, womanizer, pigs. One pig got killed in the hunting by the king. All the children of the pig, all the piglets were crying. He comes as a pig to feed them! God! I cannot even imagine this compassion! Means what this whole area he decided in this geography I will be available throughout the history, and no philosophy. That is Sundareshwara! In this geography I will be available throughout the history without any hindrance of philosophy. This is exactly the description of Sundareshwara. No philosophy restriction is philosophy of Madhurai Aadeenam. That is the philosophy of Sundareshwara.

He comes down assumes human body, does all legal, illegal, socially accepted, non-accepted, all types of leelas not just for his devotees, yogis, rishis, spiritual seekers – No - for drunkards, prostitutes, pigs. I cannot even put restriction if you feel connected he will come. I cannot say pigs felt connected and said oh Sundareshwara! please come and give milk. No. it is just causeless, purely reasonless. I bow down to the pure love and compassion of Sundareshwara!

The 4 statements I wanted to make. I made only one statement. I will make three other statements in next satsangs. Causeless, reasonless expression of the divine not only in human form in any form, he came down as female pig to feed the pig lets. God! I bow down to his compassion and his grace - oh Sundareshwara! Let your grace be on all of us! I will continue on my Satsangs on the philosophy and history of Madhurai Aadeenam. It feels you don’t know how it feels to be the living representative. Not just spiritual representative. See earlier whoever feels connected to me my devotee and disciple I am representative of Sundareshwara. Not just spiritually now even socially I represent. Too much! Cool even in Madhurai and in this summer! J

I will move to the next segment of the morning satsang Dial the Avatar.
